The new kitchen, above and left, far outshines the dated and plain-looking original, below. [See more here.]
Island House, New Kitchen
This new kitchen was a collaborative design created for a Show House used to display the newest in products and design strategies. The look of the house and the kitchen was inspired by the style of the Caribbean Islands. Coffee-brown stock cabinets with frosted-glass upper doors were selected to give it a traditional feel, while sleek stainless-steel appliances created a contemporary counterpoint. The dual level island doubles as a breakfast bar. An adjacent butler’s pantry contains an additional dishwasher for entertaining a crowd and a below-the counter cooler to store wine and other beverages.

Las Vegas Show House, New Kitchen
Another project designed by a team for a luxury custom Show House featured at the National Builders’ Show, this expansive kitchen features two large islands, premium appliances and deluxe finishes everywhere. Each island is equipped with its own sink, built-in warming and chilling drawers and separate dishwashers, while one includes a breakfast bar. The 60-inch, professional-style range is equipped with a large, high-capacity vent hood and a dedicated fill spout. The kitchen also features separate built-in freezer and refrigerator, a built-in espresso/cappuccino maker, a full-size wine chiller and an adjoining office.
This colorful new kitchen was designed by Lemos Design for a San Francisco home originally built in the early 1980’s. The goal was to update and brighten a kitchen that was tired, drab and cramped-feeling — and to do it ecologically and within the existing spaces. The plain and worn-out painted plywood cabinets were replaced with vibrant, lacquered modern cabinetry. Three-and-a-half-inch thick, white quartz aggregate countertops were specified to increase the counter height, to add visual impact and to emphasize the kitchen’s horizontal dimensions.
State-of-the-art, internally lit cabinet shelves were used to brighten cabinet interiors and to illuminate countertop work areas. An eye-popping yellow tile backsplash further energized the formerly dull space. Choosing a built-in refrigerator and dishwasher, plus sleek, minimal hardware helped reduce visual clutter and added to the finished look of the space. Swing-out wire racks were included to increase storage. A large new window was installed to add natural light, open the kitchen to the garden terrace outside and rid the home’s exterior of a quirky design element.
